The FWCLDC developed the preliminary proposal with the input of MTA, Department of Transportation and Department of Housing Preservation and Development to serve Flushing’s aging population and improve the Flushing Main Street LIRR station. This proposal was the foundation that initiated the development of Muni Lot 3 and improvements to the Main Street LIRR station.
LIRR station improvements include:
- two new elevators to make the station handicap accessible
- new ticket office,
- new staircases and canopies,
- improved signage,
- new north side station plaza that connects Main Street with the 40th Road passageway,
- platform railings,
- and warning stripes.
The project is expected to be completed second quarter of 2018.

Additionally, construction is currently underway at Muni Lot 3 to create 232 units of much needed affordable housing for seniors and low-middle-moderate income households. This project is expected to be completed in early 2019.
The LDC is working in close concert with LIRR officials to reach out to the Flushing community and publicize planned construction. To receive updates regarding the LIRR station improvements project, please send us comments via the Contact Us form.
