Flushing BOA...

A Community Meeting was held on Tuesday, October 18, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

With over 75 people in attendance, the LDC’s October 18th Open House drew participants from a broad cross-section of the Flushing community, including elected officials, state and city agencies, Flushing community groups, property-owners, merchants, and interested members of the public. During the course of two formal presentations, the LDC and its consultant team reviewed the BOA process, outlined the project’s objectives, and emphasized the important role community participation will have in shaping the final BOA product. Likewise, Assembly Member Grace Meng, City Council Member Peter Koo, and NYS DOS representative Curtis Cravens reiterated their support for the BOA project and the important role it will play in revitalizing a significant portion of Flushing. The LDC was also pleased that John Guyette from Senator Stavisky’s office was able to join as well.

The Open House activity centered around four discussion centers, each one devoted to an issue fundamental to Flushing’s future: Buildings, Recreation, Connections, and Economics. In addition to providing an overview of important topics like zoning, open space, and local transportation network, the discussion centers also encouraged community members to comment directly on improvements they’d like to see, whether it be the construction of more affordable and senior housing units, measures to reduce vehicle and pedestrian congestion, or the dredging of the Flushing River. It is precisely this community participation and feedback that is crucial to making the BOA project a success.

For further information on the October 18th Open House, please review the materials below, particularly the boards which were used at each discussion center and the slides that accompanied the formal presentations.
